BELTEX SCOTLAND – FEMALE SALE 2013 at THE SCOTTISH NATIONAL WINTER FAIR

Ingliston was the new venue for the Clubs 2013 sale at the Scottish National Winter Fair and what a success it proved to be, with a catalogue entry of 68 Sheep, only 4 lots returned home unsold.

The packed ringside saw lots sell to all corners of the UK with Orkney being the furthest North, down to Somerset in the South.

The judging took place on Friday evening and this was ably carried out by Mr Harry Emslie, Kinknockie.  He found his Champion in Lot No. 2 from Richard Wood, Kingledores – this 2008 born ewe who was the mother of Kingledores Rameses sold at 1800gns carrying twins to Airyolland Storm Trooper to the Judge Mr Harry Emslie, Kinknockie and Mr Stuart Wood, Woodies Flock, Aberdeen.
Reserve Champion was awarded to Lot 23, the Show Gimmer from Messrs Copland, Orkney – standing Beltex Champion at both Orkney Shows this year and winning Inter-Breed Sheep at Dounby, scanned twins to the newly purchased Artnagullion Top Dog, she sold at 2000gns to Proctor Farms Ltd, Clitheroe.

Following the Champion and Reserve at big money was Lot No. 5 from Andrew Baillie, Callacrag – this much admired 2010 born show ewe who stood 2nd to the Champion, sold for 2000gns to Ross Williams, Blackjack Flock and she was scanned twins to Muirton Toy Boy.
Andrew Baillie, Callacrag also produced the next two leading prices from his gimmer pen – both selling at 1500gns.  The first Lot No 34 sold to Mr J Young, Muirton and the second prize gimmer Lot No. 35 sold to Mr Raymond Flaws, Orkney.

Next over four figures was Lot 46 from Corstane, at 1100gns, this smart gimmer sold to Mr Stuart Wood, Aberdeen.
Leading the ewe lambs was Lot 63 from Messrs Kennedy, Lyonpark selling at 650gns which was closely followed at 620gns by Lot No. 56 from Greg Laughton, Lothian, the 1st prize ewe lamb on Friday at the Show.

Other Leading Prices:-  Kingledores sold Lot No. 3, their 3rd prize aged ewe at 1000gns; Orkney Lot 24 – 800gns; Brickrow Lot 30 – 680gns; Clyde Lot 51 – 650gns; Broughton Lot 27 - 600gns; Brickrow Lot 29 - 600gns; Callacrag - Lot 53 580gns; Beachy Lot 55 - 580gns.

The Charity Gimmer Lot 50 from Tom Linton with the proceeds going to The Motor Neurone Disease Association (In Memory of the Late Willie Currie) sold for 400gns to Alan Taylor, Heatheryhall.
